A painter, sculptor, architect, engineer, pioneer of aviation, anatomist, scientist and creative jack-of-all-trades, Leonardo da Vinci still appeals to everyone’s imagination today. However Giorgio Vasari, one of the first art historians of the Renaissance, tells us that da Vinci’s first job was as a musician. “Music and painting are inextricably linked, like brother and sister”, da Vinci said. In 2019, in honour of the 500th anniversary of his death, I Fagiolini asked Adrian Williams and the poet Gillian Clarke to write new work for eight voices based on da Vinci’s work. They focus on his scientific discoveries and his fascination with the art of flying. This combination of a fascinating figure and a leading ensemble promises to be an unmissable evening!
