Torbjörn Köhl

Torbjörn was born in Linköping, Sweden. After studies in Stockholm, he moved to Bremen to study baroque violin/viola with Professor Thomas Albert. His performing career has seen him tour and record with, among others, Les Arts Florissants, Teatro Lirico Amsterdam, La Stravaganza Köln, Tragicomedia, the Drottningholm Theatre Orchestra, Drottningholm Baroque Ensemble and Corona Artis.

He has been principal viola of Concerto Copenhagen since its foundation in 1991. Torbjörn has worked with conductors including Sigiswald Kuijken, Monica Huggett, Ton Koopman, Reinhard Goebel, Jordi Savall and Lars Ulrik Mortensen. He has conducted performances of Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas, Rameau’s Pygmalion and Marais’ Alcione, as well as symphonies by Mozart, Schumann and Schubert, and choral works such as Bachs’ St John Passion and Mozart’s c-minor mass.

Since 2002, once again a resident in his native city, he has held the position of Kapellmeister at the Cathedral of Linköping where he leads The Cathedral String Orchestra and Östgöta Barock.
