Travel arrangements for the 2018 Summer Academy
Arrival in Antwerp
When you arrive in Antwerp, please come to register for the Summer Academy with the GOfBaroque administration team at AMUZ, entrance at Kammenstraat 81, 2000 Antwerp (BE). Please arrive between 1430 and 1600 hours on 10 August (departure from 1300 hours on 14 August).
Please note that you are entirely responsible for your own travel arrangements to and from Antwerp, and also for all your own insurance.
Arriving by plane
You can consider flying to Antwerp (ANR), Brussels (BRU), Charleroi (CRL) or Amsterdam (AMS) airports.
Antwerp: the airline VLM has some surprisingly cheap direct flights to Antwerp. www.flyvlm.com
Charleroi: the airport is well-served by Ryanair, but check the hand-luggage policy as you may have to buy an extra seat for your instrument. You can book the extra seat online. Direct transfers from Charleroi to Antwerp by bus can be booked at www.mysupershuttle.be But train is cheaper; you need to take a bus transfer from Charleroi airport to Charleroi Sud railway station where you can take a direct train to Antwerpen Centraal https://www.brussels-charleroi-airport.com/en/access/en-train-bus/index.html
Brussels: there are regular direct trains from Brussels airport to Antwerp and you can buy tickets here: www.belgianrail.be. You can also take a bus from Brussels airport to Antwerp centre (Koningin Astridplein), details here: http://www.airportexpress.be/page?&orl=2&ssn=&lng=2&pge=4
Amsterdam: there are direct trains from Amsterdam Schiphol airport to Antwerpen Centraal. You can buy tickets here: www.b-europe.com
Here is a link to a website with details of the various airlines policies on travelling with musical instruments. It is interesting to note that Brussels Airlines is among the most ‘musician-friendly’:
EasyJet also has a clear musical instruments policy that you can read here:
If you decide to travel with EasyJet, you are advised to purchase SpeedyBoarding to ensure that your instrument can be safely stowed in the overhead lockers.
Arriving by train
You should travel to Antwerpen-Centraal. From there it is about 20 minutes to walk to AMUZ. There are direct trains to Antwerp from Amsterdam, Paris, and Brussels. You can buy international rail tickets from this website: www.b-europe.com and domestic rail tickets from this site: www.belgianrail.be If you are travelling by Eurostar from/to the UK, remember to buy your ticket to ‘Any Belgian station’ so that you do not need to buy a separate ticket from Brussels Midi to Antwerp.
Arriving by bus
Perhaps the cheapest way to travel to Antwerp is by bus. You can investigate some routes here:
https://www.ouibus.com/services or here: https://global.flixbus.com/
Arriving by car
We strongly advise against travelling to Antwerp by car. City centre parking is very expensive. If your only option is to travel by car, then we suggest you investigate using the Park & Ride facility.
