Andrew Lawrence-King

In the period when Portugal was dominated by Spain and Philip II gave preferential treatment to Spanish musicians for appointments as organists in Lisbon, there was only one single Portuguese musician who published his complete works. The volume Flores de Musica by Manuel Rodrigues Coelho contains music for harp and keyboard. It was printed in 1620 by Pedro Craesbeeck, an Antwerpian who had relocated to Lisbon. During this solo recital you will hear a selection from this music collection. Andrew Lawrence-King deserves without a shade of doubt to be dubbed the best harpist in the world. As soloist for Hespèrion XXI and artistic leader of The Harp Consort he can boast a great number of acclaimed performances and CD recordings. He is an exceptionally versatile and brilliant musician, always able to seduce the audience with his charismatic stage presence.
