Repertoire

Orchestral/sectional sessions:
GO
fBaroque will provide all the music necessary for the full orchestral and sectional sessions during the summer academy. Orchestral sessions will include works by Handel, Bach, Corelli, Rameau, Blow & Telemann. A list of the orchestral repertoire will be sent to you before the Summer Academy begins. Parts will not be sent and you are not expected to have prepared this orchestral repertoire in advance.

Chamber sessions:
GOfBaroque tutors will organise chamber music groups and will select repertoire. Groups will have opportunities to rehearse together in both uncoached and coached sessions in preparation for short performances at the informal concert at the end of the Summer Academy.

Individual sessions:
String players should prepare two contrasting movements selected to show your ability and sound to the best advantage, and two other movements to study during the Summer Academy. Remember to bring the continuo part with you.
Wind players should be prepared to work on the most relevant orchestral repertoire, such as Bach overtures, Handel concerti grossi etc. Bring at least one complete piece for your instrument, including the continuo part, to study during the Summer Academy.
Harpsichordists are reminded that you will be principally judged on your ability as a continuo player, but for your individual session you should bring solo music to demonstrate your technical skills and musicianship, and a basso continuo piece on which you would like to work to demonstrate your understanding of continuo playing.

About GOfBaroque

AMUZ (Flanders Festival – Antwerp) and the European Union Baroque Orchestra (EUBO) join forces in GOfBaroque, a European project within the framework of the European Year of Cultural Heritage 2018. GOfBaroque is co-funded by the Creative Europe programme of the European Union.

Throughout the 2018 year, Europe celebrates the diversity and richness of its heritage. With GOfBaroque (pronounce as ‘go for baroque’), AMUZ and EUBO will be introducing to a broad public the rich heritage that is baroque music. The tagline #baroquebelongstoEurope also fits nicely with the intentions of Baroque itself, in the 17th and 18th centuries, in wanting to bring art closer to the people, with its flamboyant, colourful and expressive decorations.

An important part of GOfBaroque is the educational initiative. EUBO nurtures and supports young musicians through the challenging transition between conservatoire study and the music profession. It provides young talented musicians from all European member states with the opportunity to become part of the orchestra for a season and thus gain the necessary stage and performing experience, as well as coaching and mentoring by top specialists in the early music field.

GOfBaroque also has an eye towards children from primary schools and young music students. EUBO takes them on a musical journey that acquaints the young audiences in creative ways with a lesser known art form.

The partners in the GOfBaroque project are AMUZ (Belgium), EUBO Development Trust (UK), ERP Estonian Record Productions, Tallinn (Estonia), and Stiftung Kloster Michaelstein, Blankenburg (Germany).
